About the Project
We launched the lexEYEcon translation wiki project to mark our seventh anniversary in May 2008 in response to readers who have expressed the desire to read the work of our poets in other languages. Of course we would like to do this for fiction too, but we only just started publishing fiction so that will have to wait. The good thing is, by the time we decide to do something similar for fiction we will have (hopefully) a good network of our reader/translators from this initiative. We look forward to seeing how this project unfolds and hope that you will enjoy being part of a new paradigm in the dissemination of literature.
The Poems
All the poems on this site have been cleared for translation with the authors. This also means that you can share the poems, provided you give credit to the authors and translators.
Requesting a Poem
If you are familiar with the work of one of our poets and wish to request a specific poem to translate, please contact us by e-mail via our main website. The current list of poems in English can be seen in a simple alphabetical list by clicking here and the poems translated so far can be seen here
The Process
Once a poem begins to get translated it remains in translation until there is a general consensus by translators in the language concerned that the version is accurate, and as true to the emotion of the original as possible. The list of translated poems can be found here. You can also see some on our first online PDF of translated poems
Getting Started
The easiest way to get started on a translation (after registration) is to do a search in the left side bar for the translated title of the poem you wish to translate - e.g. if you want to do the French translation for a poem called 'Wind', do a search for 'Vent'. A page will appear saying that the poem does not yet exist and give you the option to create it. After that, just open with our special formatting tag <poem> and at the end of your translation close with the tag </poem>.
