A Few Bird Miles – an anthology of poetry in tribute to the music and bands of Charlie ‘Bird’ Parker and Miles Davis edited by Sonia Sanchez.
flipped eye publishing seeks submissions for A Few Bird Miles, a new anthology of poetry paying homage to Charlie ‘Bird’ Parker and Miles Davis, both as musicians and band leaders.
We are looking for poetry that brings new insight or compelling twists to the subject of these much-referenced musicians with a big picture exploration of their work especially through their extended influence as bandleaders who led some great musicians e.g. Bird: Miles Davis (trumpet), Dexter Gordon (tenor sax), Sir Charles Thompson (piano), Leonard Gaskin (bass), Stan Levey (drums), Duke Jordan (piano), Tommy Potter (bass), John Lewis (piano), Curley Russell (bass) and Max Roach (drums); Davis: John Coltrane (tenor saxophone), Red Garland (piano), Bill Evans (piano), Wynton Kelly (piano), Paul Chambers (double bass), Julian "Cannonball" Adderley (alto saxophone), George Coleman (tenor saxophone), Ron Carter (bass), Herbie Hancock (piano), Tony Williams (drums) and Philly Joe Jones (drums).
You may submit up to 3 poems (maximum of 60 lines) per person.
Submissions are by e-mail only to hot5@flippedeye.net and should contain the word ‘Bird’ in the subject field (submissions without it will be automatically filtered out).
The deadline for submissions is May 20 2006.
