No longer able to apply the finer trimmings
to my basic maintenance visits,
he'd acquired a new hobby
for which he didn't have to leave his room.

From a tripod the nurse had set up,
from his only window
he'd wait for the moon to emerge
and catch it with an old friend's camera.

On cloudy nights, or when the moon
beamed at the building's other side,
he took a shot of the dark,
just to keep from getting rusty.

I'll have to bring the album down
next time, he said, as he hobbled
back inside. That was the last
I saw and heard of him.
