Wilfred Albert Venture was born on 3 December, 1934, in the small Village of Nabaccalis, East Coast Demerara, Guyana (the former colony British Guiana).  He was raised partly in Nabaccalis, and partly in Georgetown. He arrived in the UK in 1961, and held several jobs, including a stint in the Armed Forces. A descendant of composer, actor and writer Ignatius Sancho, he felt education was important and having lost out on opportunities himself, he always encouraged younger people to make use of the opportunities available to them, to set themselves goals, and strive to achieve them.
